How To Clean Antiques Properly

The most important thing you must remember when cleaning antique furniture is to be careful. The last thing you want to do is ruin your antique furniture because you put something harmful on it. So, while cleaning always err on the side of caution.

For everyday cleaning of antique furniture you can use a vacuum or a soft cloth to dust with. Once in a while you can use a solvent based wax to help pick up more dust. Just make sure you use a very small amount and that you wipe off the wax with a dry towel or cloth.

If you decide you want to wax the furniture you can do so with carnauba wax. Apply a very small amount of wax and then rub it in with the grain of the wood. You should use a soft cloth. Then use another soft cloth to buff the polish until it is hard. While buffing be sure to turn the cloth often.

Remember that anytime you use a cleaning company you should test it on a hidden place on the furniture. Make sure the cleaner isn’t going to harm the furniture before you use it on the entire piece.
